She was a French composer and pianist. In 1913, she was awarded the Légion d'Honneur, a first for a female composer. She was also popular in England and the US.

She says “I wrote this piece very quickly whilst sitting at the piano, experimenting with various 'atmospheric' sounds. Even though it's a fairly short, simple work, I hope it's possible to explore a wide range of sonorities and tonal colours, conjuring the appropriate trance-like character.” Melanie Spanswick is an esteemed British pianist, writer, teacher, and composer who has authored best-selling books on many aspects of piano performance and pedagogy.
